And here's the news.
You Talked, We Listened.
Yes. We got Another Cat!
June 3rd, 2025
We decided Milo needed a brother.
Meet Chester!
He’s three months old, orange-flavored, and already a master escape artist. Within days, he figured out how to open the windows and now comes and goes as he pleases.
He’s the perfect yin to Milo’s yang, and we couldn’t be happier.
We all Need a Fresh Coat of Paint Once in a While.
May 23rd, 2025
A fresh coat of paint in every room—what a difference. The whole place feels lighter, cleaner, and somehow more ours. Amazing what a few days (and a few too many paint rollers) can do.
Now we just need to resist the urge to repaint everything again next month.
The Best Part of Spring Cleaning?
Being Done Spring Cleaning.
May 11th, 2025
"Clean out the back yard, they said. There's a only a few things to throw out, they said." Wrong.
Two days of work and a pickup full of junk later—We have our backyard back!
Lets go BBQ!
The Winter is Over Fellas.
April 3rd, 2025
Spring arrives in Vancouver, and it carries powerful reminders.
The cherry blossoms remind us that even after the hardest seasons, renewal is possible. Recovery is like that too—quiet, steady, and full of hope.
Also sunglasses.
Leftovers. No Problem.
March 28th, 2025
It’s Friday, the sun is finally out, and we hit the road with a truck full of goodies.
Fresh-cooked ham, turkey, wild rice, charcuterie boards, and soft drinks—all packed up and handed out in the DTES. Helping in this way feeds more than hunger—it’s food for the soul.
We are Catering an Event, Assemble the team!
March 27th, 2025
We’re spending the day prepping food for a community event we’re catering—because good food brings people together.
It’s more than just cooking; it’s about giving back and building stronger bonds between our houses. Tired arms, full hearts, and hopefully soon… full plates!
Any Sunday can be Turkey Sunday. Right?
March 16th, 2025
Turkey on a Sunday? Absolutely.
No, it’s not Thanksgiving. No, we’re not celebrating anything. We just like turkey—and we like excuses to eat stuffing. Let's celebrate the little victories. Cheers to another month of positivity in recovery.
Meet Milo!
March 28th, 2025
Our newest (and furriest) team member—Giving Back adopted a kitten last week! He’s friendly, curious, goofy, and constantly on the hunt for snacks. Still getting to know the place, but clearly already making himself at home.
Food Room Clearout!
March 9th, 2025
Every quarter, we go through our non-perishable food storage and donate what we have to families in need. This month we managed to donate 3 van loads! It’s a simple habit that helps reduce waste and make a small difference in our community. If you have extra shelf-stable items, consider donating—they can go a long way for someone else.
Donating a Truck-Load of Groceries
February 27th, 2025
As our name suggests, we feel that our society has an obligation to help out where we can. Making a difference in our community is an important part of our identity and it is ingrained in our program. Today we donated a truck load of fresh grocieries to another local recovery facility!
Giving Back Goes Bowling
February 20th, 2025
Who says recovery can't be fun? We grabbed the newest members of our society, rented a couple of lanes (shoutout to Granview Lanes!), and spent a couple hours bonding as a group. Getting well is more then attending groups and meetings. The community and friendship element of recovery is equally important. This is why we schedule events throughout the calendar; to have some fun outside of the house, some friends, and take a quick break from our recovery program. And to answer your question- Yes, it can get quite competitive!
Giving Back Day!
February 7th, 2025
On a frozen Friday in February, The Giving Back society sets up shop in the Downtown East Side. Volunteers from our Society spent the afternoon offering a variety of soups and sandwiches to those in need. We take pride in giving back to the community offering clothes and brand new sleeping bags as well! Lots of our members came from the DT East Side, and our presence in the neighborhood is proof that the miracle of recovery is available to anyone willing to try. If we can do it, believe us when we say: ANYONE can do it.
